One of the greatest compliments a young artist can get is when a superstar acknowledges a performance with a thumbs up! Keith Urban just gave 15 thumbs ups to a group of rising stars who covered his song ?Female,? and the best part is, they?re all female!
On Monday nights in Nashville, music fans can hit up the city?s popular songwriter hang The Listening Room Cafe to hear aspiring women singer-songwriters perform as part of Song Suffragettes. In addition to a group of regulars, new artists are invited to sit in on the songwriter?s round regularly and, occasionally, a country star will stop by and sing a few as well. The group typically ends each show with them all joining in for a cover of a popular song. It?s all about shining a spotlight on the deep female talent pool in Nashville.
It makes sense, then, that this incredibly talented group would want to cover Keith Urban?s empowering new ode to ladies, ?Female.? But Song Suffragettes took it a step further and created a music video for their performance.
And y?all, it slays!
Set against a stark white background, the word ?female? scrolls across the screen in different languages before the ladies of the Suffragettes begin singing one at a time. The song takes on a greater meaning when it is performed by these young women, and when they hit those harmonies ? holy goodness!
Keith Urban even thinks so! He called the ladies out on Twitter declaring, ?LOVE this cover. You all ROCK! ??
In conjunction with the video release, Song Suffragettes has partnered with the women’s organization LiveYourDream.org to help drive awareness for their mission of ensuring that every woman and girl has an opportunity to live free from violence, receive a quality education, reach her full potential and achieve her dreams.
Props to ?Female? voices Kalie Shorr, Lacy Cavalier, Savannah Keyes, Lacy Green, Tasji Bachman, Madison Kozak, Lena Stone, Tenille Arts, Tiera, Kim Paige, Katy DuBois, Alexis Gomez, Emma Lynn White, Regan Stewart and Chloe Gilligan. Y?all sure make us feel good about the future!
