We love love. Who doesn’t? And with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, our thoughts definitely turn not only to love, but also to romance. And since we’re all country music lovers here, we can’t help but think about some of those songs that make us feel the most amorous, and maybe even inspire us to bump buckles on the dance floor with a pretty little honky-tonk angel or boot-scootin’ cowboy.
If you’re thinking about celebrating Valentine’s Day country-style, Rare Country’s 5 has a few favorite, sexy country love songs that might help set the mood for a night of passion … or at least a few hours of puckering up.
Sure, we typically think of love songs as being slow rolling ballads, maybe with big string arrangements and range-y vocals, but with his very first No. 1 single, Chris Young reminded us that romantic relationships aren’t all about being serious or even sexy. Sometimes they’re about having fun. Of course, in “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song),” that fun does turn into something a little more intimate than just “Tuxedo waiters, black tie, white tablecloth and red wine.” In fact, we aren’t really sure that the couple in this 2009 smash ever even make it to dinner because Chris sings, “Go pay the waiter and let’s leave.”
Hey, some things just can’t wait.
While Chris reminds us how sweet and sexy love can be, Dierks Bentley’s ode to an evening of intimacy is steamy and sultry.
“Come A Little Closer” may be the contemporary equivalent of Conway Twitty’s “I’d Love to Lay You Down.” Right off the bat, Dierks declares, “Come a little closer baby, I feel like layin’ you down,” but if you listen to the tune in its entirety, it’s actually a tender and emotional plea to break down everything that stands between two hearts at an impasse. And Dierks is right. Sometimes that “bed of sweet surrender” at least unleashes some vulnerability that leads to the path of understanding. Love does often prevail.
Whew, that was heavy! But there’s nothing wrong with being in love and wanting to show it.
We know there are plenty of people who will be celebrating Single’s Awareness Day instead of Valentine’s Day, and lots of groups of women who will be raising a glass of bubbly for Galentine’s Day, so we’re happy to celebrate those folks with songs like Luke Combs’ “When It Rains It Pours,” but this time around, Rare Country’s 5 is thinking about amoré.
Be sure to tell us what your favorite romantic, sexy, silly, fun or just purely sweet country love song is in the comments. And if there’s a special meaning behind your song choice that you’d like to share, like we said before, we love love!
Don’t forget to check back later in the week when we have more of the news and fun from in and around country music in Rare Country’s 5.
