Being a country music artist has never been the easiest career path a woman could take, but after several years of a feminine drought in the format, it feels like we’re starting to see a few fresh your faces get a foothold and achieve some hard-earned and well-deserved success.
One of those lyrical ladies is Maren Morris, and we’ve been so blown away with the way this petite powerhouse handles herself, we can’t get enough. In fact, Rare Country’s 5 is looking at the top five reasons we love this sassy songbird.
It was a great year to be a country music fan. So many talented young artist have broken through with chart-topping hits, there were wall-to-wall tours and the music was diverse, explosive and emotive. But it was also a difficult year. In the deadliest mass shooting by an individual in the United States, 58 country music fans lost their lives and more than 500 others were injured during the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. As everyone affected by the tragedy grappled with processing the devastation, Maren and Vince Gill released the tender musical plea, “Dear Hate.” While the song alone provided healing by reminding listeners that love does conquer all, money raised from sales of the download of the song also went to help the victims of the shooting.
Maren’s passionate heart and incredible sensitivity were showcased beautifully in “Dear Hate,” but when it came to being attacked on social media, as trolls will often do to music stars, we saw a strong and confident young woman who wasn’t taking any guff off of anybody. Blame it all on her Texas roots, credit those sassy ladies of country that came before her or just call it damn good DNA, but Maren didn’t shy away from going toe-to-toe with haters. And we applaud her for that.
It’s hard to believe that it has only been a couple of years since Maren became a nationally recognized figure in country music, but that’s been time enough for us to make a long list of reasons to love this talented young lady. Check out more reasons we love Maren in Rare Country’s 5 video.
And come back later this week when we have more news and fun from in and around country music in Rare Country’s 5.
