It’s a great time to be a country music fan, especially if you love all kinds of great music. Country music represents an incredible melding of all kinds of musical influences, further proving that country is America’s music. But at its core, there are things we expect to still hear in the format and Chris Stapleton is one of the artists who embody them all.

That’s why Rare Country’s 5 is sharing five of the reasons we’re behind this bearded wonder, and have been for a decade.

There’s a joke in Nashville that an overnight sensation actually takes 10 years to make and, for the most part, that joke is true. It certainly was true for Chris, whose first performance gig came as the frontman with the ridiculously talented bluegrass band The Steeldrivers. The Steeldrivers regularly packed houses in Nashville, and continued to do so even when Chris left to start the southern rock band The Jompson Brothers.

But even after Chris signed a solo major label deal, it took a couple of years before all of the gears clicked into place and he was able to release the music that started the sweet and talented star’s ascent to the top. He has certainly paid his dues, and we love him for sticking with it.

Another thing we love so much about Chris is a no-brainer. It’s the same thing that so many others love about him—that incredible voice. Some qualities of Chris’ voice are obvious. He has incredible range and rich tones, but also has so much texture and gravelly goodness. But what really bowls us over is the emotion he is able to convey. Songs like “Whiskey and You” from his “Traveler” album, or “Either Way” from “From A Room: Volume 1,” are filled with the tenderness and ache of a broken heart, while the thumping “Hard Living” on “From A Room: Volume 2” is a foot-stomping romp of a tune.

Heck, not only do those albums prove that Chris is vocally diverse, they also showcase the diversity of his songwriting ability. The Kentucky native has penned songs for a number of country artists, including George Strait, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney and Darius Rucker, and pop artists like Adele are covering Chris’ songs on records and in concert.

You can see more about that, and some of the other reasons we’re so enamored with Chris Stapleton, in Rare Country’s 5. It’s really impossible to list all of the great things about this incredible singer-songwriter, though, so be sure to share some of the things you love most about this award-winning star in the comments. And get ready for more on Chris and his wife Morgane as they prepare to welcome twins into their family in the coming weeks.

Be sure to check back in later in the week when we have more of the news and fun from in and around country music in Rare Country’s 5.
