Tim McGraw is a guy who knows the value of a great song. Though not known as a songwriter himself, Tim has built a successful career on finding killer songs and bringing them to life with his distinctive, relatable voice.
The Louisiana native was raised in the small town of Start, where he enjoyed sports and music. At 11, he found his birth certificate while looking for a photo for a school project and discovered his biological father was famed Major League baseball pitcher Tug McGraw. Though the two didn’t develop a relationship until Tim was in his late teens, they ended up being close until Tug’s death in 2004. Though he attended college on a baseball scholarship, a knee injury ended Tim’s diamond dreams and he turned his attention to music.
He moved to Nashville and signed a deal with Curb Records. His first album failed to become a success, and Tim jokingly says it was such a bomb it was certified “wood,” not gold or platinum. However, his second album, “Not a Moment Too Soon,” spawned the hit singles “Indian Outlaw,” “Don’t Take the Girl” (which became his first No. 1) “Down on the Farm” and “Not a Moment Too Soon,” which became his second chart-topper. The album sold more than six million copies, climbing to No. 1 on both “Billboard’s” Top Country Albums chart and the Billboard 200, and earned Tim the Academy of Country Music awards for Album of the Year and Top New Male Vocalist in 1994.
In the decades that followed, Tim has expanded into acting, appearing in such films as “Friday Night Lights,” “Four Christmases,” “Flicka,” “Country Strong,” “The Shack” and “The Blind Side.” All the while, he has remained one of country music’s most consistent hit-makers and a staple at country radio with such songs as “I Like It, I Love It,” “All I Want is a Life,” “Everywhere,” “Where the Green Grass Grows,” “Just to See You Smile,” “Something Like That,” “Grown Men Don’t Cry,” “Angry All the Time,” “Shotgun Rider” and “Live Like You Were Dying.”
In 1996, he married Faith Hill and the couple has successfully blended career and family, raising three beautiful daughters, frequently touring together and recording such hit duets as “It’s Your Love,” “Like We Never Loved at All” and “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s.” The couple finally recorded an entire album together in 2017, “The Rest of Our Life.” Tim and Faith are continuing their successful “Soul2Soul Tour” in 2018.
