It’s a long way from the tiny town of Star, Mississippi, to the top of the country charts, but Faith Hill has made the journey and is living the American dream. Happily married for more than two decades to superstar hubby Tim McGraw, Faith is mother to three beautiful daughters —Gracie, Maggie and Audrey — and has enjoyed a successful career that has carried her to the top of the country and pop charts and has also included forays into acting.
Faith knew early on she was destined to be onstage. She made her first public appearance at 7 years old singing at a 4-H luncheon, and by the time she was in her teens, she was singing regularly at local churches. She formed a band at 17 and continued performing at rodeos, local prisons and anywhere else she could find an audience. At 19, she quit college and moved from Mississippi to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. She paid her dues working at McDonalds, selling t-shirts, singing backup vocals and working as a secretary at a music publishing company before she landed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records.
Faith burst onto the scene in 1993 with her debut album, “Take Me as I Am,” spawning the hit single “Wild One,” which camped out at No. 1 on the country singles chart for four weeks. Her cover of Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart” also hit the summit, and the album went on to sell an astounding three million copies. The girl from Star, Mississippi, was on her way.
Her sophomore album, “It Matters to Me,” served up five hit singles—“You Can’t Lose Me,” “Someone Else’s Dream,” “Let’s Go to Vegas” and “I Can’t Do That Anymore.” Her third album, “Faith,” saw the talented chanteuse expand her sound to include a decidedly more pop flavor and the hit “This Kiss” became a No. 1 country hit and peaked at No. 7 on the pop charts. Her next album, 1999’s “Breathe,” saw her further expand into pop territory, and she was rewarded with the No. 1 spot on both the “Billboard” Top Country Albums chart and the all-genre Billboard 200, as well as three Grammy Awards including Best Country Album, Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for “Let’s Make Love” featuring Tim McGraw and Best Country Female Vocal Performance for “Breathe.” The album went on to sell nearly 10 million copies worldwide.
In addition to her successful recording career, Faith has also appeared in films such as “The Stepford Wives” and “Dixieland.” In 2017, she further expanded her resume to include the role of executive producer on the talk show “Pickler & Ben,” which was picked up for a second season.
Faith and Tim couple also played a string of Las Vegas dates as part of a residency at The Venetian, and then embarked on their “Soul2Soul World Tour” in 2017. The tour is in support of their first-ever duets album, “The Rest of Our Life,” on Sony Music Nashville. After years of sporadically releasing hit duets, the couple finally gave fans what they had been hoping for when they recorded that long-awaited duets album, and after their successful touring run in 2017, they are continuing to take the music to the fans throughout 2018.
