One of the many reasons we love our country stars is that they share such a strong and special bond with their fans. That usually comes clear during their concerts, and in meet and greets.
One such moment, which nearly brought us to tears, was the time earlier this year when Blake Shelton met his brave little fan Daisy Prescott — a 7-year-old darling, who has unfortunately been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM).
Daisy and Blake’s meeting, which took place at Bayou Country Superfest in Louisiana on May 28, almost didn’t happen, because the charming little youngster was too nervous. Despite posting a video earlier in the day talking about how excited she was to be meeting Blake, when the time came she just couldn’t bring herself to come face-to-face with her favorite star.
However, Blake made sure to seek Daisy out, and the two shared the most meaningful, prolonged hug ever. And, yes, hearts melted and tears likely fell from the eyes of Daisy’s loving mother, Kristen.
The unforgettable moment has now earned Blake the Fan Moment of the Year trophy in the Rare Country Awards. A live concert event announcing the year’s winners took place on Dec. 14 at Nashville’s Acme Feed & Seed. Blake also nabbed the award for Male Artist of the Year at the event. Read more about that here.
Blake wasn’t able to attend the show due to his commitments on “The Voice,” but he did send a video message thanking his beloved fans for voting for him in this important category.
“I just found out that I won the Fan Moment of the Year from the Rare Country Awards,” he humbly said. “I’m completely shocked and honored. I never won anything like that, but I gotta say that that award belongs to Daisy Prescott, because she is the star, and anybody would want to have a chance to meet her. I love that little girl, and I hope she’s doing good, and thank you to all the fans [who] voted for me, but that’s Daisy’s award.”
As for Daisy, she was on site at Acme Feed & Seed during the show, where she found out about the win. And, she shared her thoughts about the secret surprise.
“That is so cool,” she said about the Rare Country Award win, adding that Blake “is amazing,” as well as tall and a good hugger.
How sweet! We think so, too!
The award comes as no surprise to Blake fans, who know he’s always thinking about them. For those who were unable to attend CMA Fest this summer, Blake surprised his fans with a six-song EP featuring a live set from his appearance at the event. And those who couldn’t make it to his 2017 “Doin’ It to Country Songs Tour,” won’t have to wait very long to see him live, because he recently announced his “Country Music Freaks” tour, which is set to begin in 2018.
Blake was up against some big competition for this year’s Fan Moment of the Year. Other nominees included Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Rascal Flatts, as well as last year’s winner, Scotty McCreery.
We’re so glad to see that fans took notice of Blake’s great big heart. Congratulations, Blake!
