Sam Hunt said goodbye to his winter beard during a trip to a barbershop in New York City following Sunday night’s Grammy Awards. He debuted the new look on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at a press conference with Luke Bryan in Nashville announcing their plans to play stadiums together this summer on Luke’s “What Makes You Country Tour.”

Luke announced Sam to the reporters in the crowd about 20 minutes into the press conference, saying, “Y’all give it up, Sam Hunt, ladies and gentleman, with a fresh, new, clean-shaven look!” He then joked to Sam, “You’re so pretty!”

Later in the press conference, Sam explained why he got rid of the beard.

He said, “The past couple years, when it gets cold, I like to grow a little facial hair. So, I had that going on for a little while. I was in a hotel two nights ago, and there was  this cool little barbershop downstairs. He was giving those straight-razor shaves. I’d never had one done, so I got it [taken] off.”

Luke was intrigued by the straight-razor shave part of the story. He asked Sam, “Is that the hot towel deal? I’ve never had that. I may have to grow mine out and get the hot towel.”

Luke also admitted he didn’t recognize Sam without the beard.

He said, “[Sam] walked in, I swear to God, he could have been in our room for 20 minutes, and I was like, [‘What?’]  ‘Cause I just saw him at [Crash My] Playa with the full deal.” As previously reported, Sam was one of the performers at Luke’s festival in Mexico earlier in the month.

In addition to the debut of his new beardless look, Sam also laid out plans to record and release brand-new music very soon. Before he played “Take Your Time,” Sam teased the new project saying, “I was going to try to work up a new song, but I haven’t got all the lyrics memorized yet.”

Sam also promised we’ll have new music from him by the time the stadium tour with Luke kicks off May 31 in Toronto.

He said, “I do have some songs. I’m going in [the studio] Feb. 5th through March and April, and I’m hitting it hard. I plan to have new music out a month or two before we hit the road, when I may not have as much time to write.”

As you might have guessed, Sam’s wife, Hannah, has been a driving force in helping him keep focused on his music.

“I’ve finally got my life a lot more organized than it has been in years,” Sam explained. “Getting married last year helped a lot in that department. So, that’s definitely translated with music. I’ve been writing for a couple years, and I planned to have new music out before now, but with all the other things goings on, I haven’t organized it into a compact album version, market-ready version of some of this music.”

Luke’s “What Makes You Country Tour’s” stadium dates will also feature performances from Jon Pardi, Carly Pearce and newcomer Morgan Wallen. Check out the full list of tour dates at
