Travel with us, if you will, to the small southern community of Pike County, Georgia.
Nestled in the pines just southwest of Atlanta, this cozy and quaint stop is home to Callista Clark, a young singer with a big dream and an even bigger voice.
We stumbled across this cover video of Callista singing Don Henley’s iconic Eagles song, “Desperado,” and it absolutely blew us away! Although the video is a bit blurry, Callista’s vocal performance shines through as she simply sits on top of a picnic table and strums an acoustic guitar.
At just 14 years old, Callista is already writing her own material, too. But this particular cover is so special because she totally nails the heart and soul this song requires.
This sweet girl is clearly an old soul.
Fans on her Facebook page agree, too, about this outstanding cover performance, leaving comments like, “You can’t teach this! A gift from God!” and “This girl can sing!” One fan remarked, “I’m sure Don Henley would be proud!”
We have to agree with that last statement. This is a hard song to sing and she was flawless!
Don originally wrote the song with his fellow Eagle, the late Glenn Frey and recorded back in 1973 for their album also titled “Desperado.”
It has been famously covered by everyone from Linda Ronstadt to jazz chanteuse Diana Krall to Johnny Cash with Don on backup vocals, and is one of the most iconic Eagles songs from their expansive and impeccable catalogue.
As for Callista’s musical mission, she said on her Facebook page, “I like to sing music that makes people feel something.”
She’s already joined Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles onstage, and performed at Eddie’s Attic, a renowned venue in Atlanta where artists like Jennifer, John Mayer and even Justin Bieber got their starts!
We’ve got a feeling that country music is going to be hearing more from Callista, and we’ll keep our eyes and ears open for more from this amazing talent! In the meantime, you can check out her other cover videos on her Facebook page, where she takes on Chris Stapleton’s “Broken Halos” (holy moly!), as well as Screaming’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put A Spell On You,” Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” and a host of others.
Is there anything this little diva can’t sing? We are just blown away by her!
