It’s one of the most majestic songs in contemporary music, and so many amazing vocalists have sung Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” during live shows, including Keith Urban and Kelly Clarkson, that you might think a relative newcomer wouldn’t attempt it. You’d be wrong. Rising country star Brett Young didn’t just attempt it, he nailed it in one of the most goose bump inducing versions we’ve heard.

Barefoot on a barstool at Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, Brett accompanied himself on the acoustic guitar, and just a few words in you could hear the crowd’s support.

Despite the enthusiastic whoops and hollers from the audience, Brett’s poignant performance is unaffected. But this isn’t his first time to perform the contemporary classic. A search online shows that it is a favorite for Brett to sing acoustically, and he has been doing it for several years.

That might explain his confidence.

If you haven’t seen Brett on Lady Antebellum’s “You Look Good World Tour,” you still have time. Lady A, Brett and Kelsea Ballerini have dates on the books well into September before they head across the ocean for the international portion of the tour. And don’t forget, Brett has also just released a new single, the heartbroken “Like I Loved You.”

With that voice and great songs, we’re predicting a nice, long, successful career for Brett.
