There’s no doubt that Sam Hunt rapidly became one of country music’s hottest young stars, and although some may say he also pushed the envelope with his unique, pop-flavored production, there’s no denying that this Georgia native has the heart and the song lyrics of a country boy.
And while in his own songs Sam’s vocal is often a beautiful melodic recitation, let’s be honest, the man can also really sing.
Sam has shared a few different videos of classic country covers over the years that not only reveal his passion for country music, but his silky vocals, but he just added a great new one to the mix.
Yes, while on a break from music to support his wife Hannah in her medical work, Sam made a quick trip to Mexico to take part in Luke Bryan’s “Crash My Playa” event. And, while hanging out with his incredible band, the boys warmed up with a little pickin’ party singing Kenny Chesney’s 2003 hit “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems.”
And it’s all kinds of awesome.
Even Kenny gave it his stamp of approval, weighing in on Instagram by commenting, “Love @samhuntmusic’s version.”
It makes us really excited to see what’s in the hopper for Sam, because even though he’s taking a winter break, we suspect that the natural born songwriter in him is getting all kinds of ideas for new tunes.
For now, though, Sam is following his beautiful bride while she travels to underprivileged countries taking medical care to those who may not have access to the basics. Back in December, Sam thanked his fans for allowing him the opportunity to take this time, especially since earlier in his career, Hannah had given up so much to support him.
The singer, songwriter and musician has shared a few photos of their journey so far, and it’s really rather remarkable how they left behind the comforts of a modernized world to do this humanitarian work.
Winter will be over in a couple more months, so as much as we admire and applaud Sam and Hannah’s work, we have to wonder if they’ll soon be back in the States where the entertainer can work on new music. He hasn’t made any announcements yet, but the “Body Like a Back Road” singer does have a couple of festival dates on his calendar and more could certainly be added.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been a little over three years since Sam released his debut studio album, “Montevallo.” The now triple-Platinum certified album produced four No. 1 singles, including the dreamy, four-times Platinum “Take Your Time.” His other four-times Platinum single, “Body Like a Back Road,” was a three-week No. 1 and is the kickoff single from what will be his sophomore studio album.
Sam also released an EP, “X2C,” in 2014, and then in 2015, he released the acoustic mixtape, “Between the Pines.” In 2017, his cover of the patriotic “This Land is Your Land” from “Bright: The Album,” was made available.
We’re waiting for ya, Sam!
