Miranda Lambert fans’ ears will certainly perk up when they hear that her boyfriend, Anderson East, has a new song out titled “Girlfriend.” Could it be a sweet song of devotion to his country superstar better half? Will we find out any inside tidbits on their romance?
Anderson’s new song is a down-and-dirty R&B-tinged jam in which he confesses to a friend that he’s falling in love with that guy’s girlfriend.
This definitely isn’t a straight-ahead love song.
Anderson gave his live debut performance of “Girlfriend” on CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Jan. 9. Backed up by a full horn section and his soulful band, Anderson held nothing back during this appearance. Just watch him break it down towards the end and stomp around the stage like a man possessed. He’s definitely feeling the spirit.
This performance is a good preview of Anderson’s upcoming “Encore World Tour.” The trek kicks off with a sold-out show at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on Thursday, Jan. 11.
Anderson’s new album, “Encore,” is out Friday, Jan. 12.
The video for “Girlfriend” is also out, and it features a side of Anderson we really haven’t seen before. It turns out the guy is really funny, too.
The clip takes place at a summer camp with Anderson in the role of camp counselor and narrator. He’s all decked out in a khaki shorts and shirt combo, complete with a ton of merit badges on his vest.
The characters in the song are all played by elementary school-age campers, and the two guys get into quite the battle over the object of their mutual affection.
The new song is getting rave reviews from country stars like Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley. He posted a picture of the single on Instagram with the caption, “This song is pure 🔥! Holy smokes.”
We’ve got to agree with you there, Charles.
Of course, Miranda Lambert is all in on this new album, posting a plug for the project that included the hashtag “He’s taken.”
Anderson’s new album, “Encore,” features “Girlfriend” as well as “All on My Mind,” which Anderson co-wrote with pop superstar Ed Sheeran.
Chris and Morgane Stapleton co-wrote the opening track, “King for a Day,” with Anderson, and there’s a cover of the Willie Nelson song “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces” towards the end of the album.
Though Anderson co-wrote a few songs on Miranda’s latest album, “The Weight of These Wings,” she’s not a co-writer on tracks for “Encore.” However, we know she will be cheering Anderson on every step of the way. She was in the audience last month when he previewed a few songs at a show at the Nashville club Basement East.
The feeling is obviously mutual between these two.
