Miley Cyrus has been through a period of transition with her music. She’s growing up, she’s learning herself and becoming more confident than ever before in her voice as both an artist and a person.
Miley is a woman now, y’all, and she’s lived a lot in her young life in the spotlight.
Maybe that’s why it hit us extra hard watching her flawlessly execute Fleetwood Mac’s iconic, emotional and nostalgic song “Landslide” as part of the 2018 MusiCares Person of the Year concert gala heading into the Grammy Awards on Jan. 28.
Miley was part of an all-star lineup of superstars performing in honor of Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Fleetwood Mac that included artists from across all genres of music.
But when she took the stage in that sequined suit for the stripped-down performance, the room stood still. Her deep and booming alto voice was eerily reminiscent of Stevie Nicks herself, who no doubt was supremely proud of this stirring rendition of one of her most beloved tunes.
Doesn’t that just break your heart in the best way possible?
For Miley, this was a very emotional moment.
She posted this photo on her Instagram, and the caption she added was so heartfelt and moving, we teared up reading it, particularly when she quoted the “Landslide” lyrics that obviously are very personal to her, “Time makes you bolder, children get older and I’m getting older too.”
Still thinkin about last night…. feels like a dream. I had the opportunity to sing Landslide (top 3 favorite song of all time) in front of Stevie Nicks (I am so thankful for these lyrics) & Fleetwood Mac! Most inspiring band for me growin up …. (right up there with Joan & The Blackhearts) These lyrics always rang so true to me in my world….. I was "afraid of changin" …. cause I "built my life around you" , that always meant to me personally, everything I had built in MY life (especially my career) was based on who I was before …. everyone loved "the old me" but there's a new "me" (us) everyday … we're always shedding our skin and blossoming into older and hopefully better, more evolved selves ….. "Time makes you bolder, children get older and I'M GETTING OLDER TOO" thank you for the opportunity @musicares & @recordingacademy …. I'll never forget this one …. #FleetwoodMac 🖤🖤🖤 Make sure you watch The Grammys this Sunday & catch me performing with Sir Elton John! Gonna be sooooo wicked! #BitchIsBack
This was just one of many brilliant performances that night, many from Nashvillians and country stars. Zac Brown Band was on hand to perform “Don’t Stop,” while Little Big Town performed “Dreams.” Keith Urban nailed “Second Hand News,” and Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas performed a downright heavenly version of “Songbird.”
The MusiCares dinner, held on Jan. 26 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, raised nearly $7 million, according to Grammy president/CEO Neil Portnow. The money will help fund health and human services programs for musicians and people in the music industry.
Proud to be apart of @musicares and amazed by their incredible efforts supporting artists! You're always there when we need you most! Was a privilege to perform for such an impactful room @ the legendary Radio City & was honored to celebrate the incredible Fleetwood Mac! 🖤🖤🖤 Don't forget to watch The Grammys this Sunday! I am performing with Elton John 😍 Promise, you won't wanna miss it! #BitchIsBack
Brandi Carlile, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Jared Leto, Haim, One Republic, Portugal. The Man, Juanes and Harry Styles also performed during the evening’s festivities.
That’s a great night of music for such a great cause. Congratulations to Fleetwood Mac and all the artists who performed. Wow!
And don’t miss Miley performing with Elton John on the Grammy Awards Sunday night, Jan. 28, on CBS.
