We would like to personally hug the person who had the idea to get Little Big Town and Andra Day together to sing.

The Grammy-winning country superstars and the R&B powerhouse took to the stage at last night’s CMT Artists of the Year event for a powerful performance of Andra’s breakout hit, “Rise Up.”

It couldn’t have been a more stunning performance. Little Big Town is already known for their harmonies and heart, so combine that with Andra’s heart and soul, and it was a combination people will be talking about until next year’s show at the very least.

Not only was the performance stunning, but it was also timely. With so much heartbreak, tragedy, loss and despair in the world right now, and especially the country music community, this was a message every one of us needed to hear.

Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton and LBT also got up to perform the late Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down,” yet another powerful performance and timely message for us all.

We absolutely love seeing stars of all genres coming together to celebrate not only each other’s achievements, but to also uplift, inspire and give us all the hope we need to get through the hard times.

Samantha Stephens absolutely lives for music. When she's not making it, she's talking or writing about it. She's worked in all arenas of the country music world for nearly a decade, from syndicated radio and television to print journalism. She's even been known to crash a red carpet or two, true story.
