When a country star pulls a fan out of the audience to sing with them, you never know if it’s going to be one of those moments when a star is born. That’s exactly what happened when Kelsea Ballerini invited one of her biggest fans, Abby Stephens, to sing with her during a Feb. 14 show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
It was Kelsea’s first time headlining that iconic venue in Music City, and Kelsea decided to bring Abby up to sing a duet on the No. 1 hit, “Dibs.” If you’re not watching the video closely, you’d swear Kelsea had brought out an artist friend for the collaboration. Abby sounds super-confident switching off lead vocals with Kelsea. They even worked out choreography on the spot, with Kelsea and Abby taking opposite sides of the stage at one point in the song to really work the crowd.
If it looks like Kelsea and Abby seem really comfortable onstage together, it’s because they’ve been singing together since 2014. Just check out this adorable performance by the two of them from that year. Abby was just a little thing as they teamed up for a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.”
The duo got back together in 2015 for this duet on Kelsea’s big hit, “Yeah Boy,” at the ACM Party for a Cause concert in Las Vegas.
It’s so cool to watch Kelsea keep bringing Abby up onstage over the years as she grows up! We have a feeling Kelsea gets just as much of a kick out of it as Abby does. Kelsea starting writing and performing her own songs as a young girl, too, so we can only imagine Kelsea sees a lot of herself in Abby.
As for Kelsea, her career is still on fire with her latest hit, “Legends,” just going to No. 1 at country radio this week. That bit of good news comes as Kelsea is still on a high from that sold-out headlining show at the Ryman.
What’s even more amazing is that Kelsea was suffering from the flu when she took the Ryman stage. The show is part of her current run of shows on “The Unapologetically Tour.”
According to “The Tennessean,” Kelsea said that despite her illness, “I could not cancel this show because this is the show we built the tour around.”
In addition to Abby, Kelsea had another special guest join her for the Ryman show.
Her new husband, Morgan Evans, came out to sing a sweet love song he wrote for Kelsea titled “Dance With Me.”
It was the first time the two of them had sung onstage together, and we’re hoping to see them collaborate even more in the future.
