Keith Urban has collaborated with many artists, including Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Lauren Alaina. But his latest duet performance is one of his most unexpected, yet.

The country music superstar recently teamed up with rising a cappella group HisStory to give his 2016 hit, “Wasted Time,” a sexy R&B twist.

The Atlanta-based musical quartet — made up of members Travis Belton, JaJuan “JD” Glasper, Rodrique “Drique” Roberts and Jalil Harris — opened up their rendition of the tune with some pleasing oohs and ahhs, while Keith stood with the group and strummed up a few chords on his trusty guitar. After the fivesome’s pleasant introduction, “JD” and Travis took turns singing the first verses before Keith belted out the powerful chorus.

Midway through the song, an entire audience could be seen clapping and singing along to the song, while Keith’s smooth Aussie vocals, combined with the a cappella group’s beat boxing and harmonies, brought musical magic to the tune all the way to the finish.

Keith’s duet with HisStory was all part of a new online YouTube competition series called “Best.Cover.Ever,” where well-known artists give up-and-coming acts from around the world a chance to shine under the spotlight. Before the emerging acts get that chance though, they have to submit their own cover of one of their favorite “Best. Cover. Ever.” star’s song. Then two lucky aspiring artists are chosen from among hundreds of unique performers to go head-to-head for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to duet with their idol.

So prior to HisStory’s performance with Keith, the a cappella group faced off against Nashville singer-songwriter Emma Lynn White. Each performer took turns singing their own unique rendition of Keith’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color.” Although Emmy Lynn’s performance was beautiful, her nerves got the best of her, and HisStory ended up with the win.

“Country music and the music we do, R&B, relates to each other just by telling a story,” said Travis, who has been with HisStory since high school. “Keith’s music is authentic, and I think there’s passion behind it. We definitely appreciate it.”

“Best.Cover.Ever” premiered on Nov. 20 and is hosted by Grammy Award-winning rapper Ludacris. Other stars featured on the YouTube competition show include Charlie Puth, Demi Lovato, Jason Derulo, Katy Perry, Backstreet Boys, Bebe Rexha and more.
