Chris Stapleton just released another batch of killer songs on his new album, “From A Room: Volume 2,” and the project kicks off with this song he performed on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Dec. 4. It’s called “Millionaire,” and you might be surprised to learn Chris didn’t write this one. It’s a song he’s known for about 15 years that was written and recorded by singer-songwriter Kevin Welch.
Chris says of recording “Millionaire,” “I love that song. I would always sit around the house playing that song to myself on guitar. It’s fun to play. It’s fun to sing. It’s a great melody, great lyrics, great everything. To me, that’s a great song. I just loved it, so it was time to do it.”
The lyrics tell the story of a guy who’s rich thanks to a love that’s “more precious than gold.” Chris is certainly living out those lyrics these days. That’s his wife, Morgane, singing harmony with him, and she’s carrying the twins that will soon join their two older kids. Since Chris and Morgane take their children with them on tour, they’re going to have to make some big adjustments on the road once the babies arrive next year.
Chris says with a laugh, “We’ll find out, won’t we. It’ll be new logistical things. We’ll figure it out.”
As it stands now, Chris and Morgane and the kids all travel on one bus, while both sets of grandparents share another bus.
“We got built-in babysitters,” Chris says. “My kids are home schooled as well. My mother-in-law’s a retired second grade teacher. She’s their teacher as well. We have field trips on the road. We have all that on the road.”
There are a lot of folks looking out for the Stapleton kids, and Chris is grateful for all of that support.
He adds, “My children are really fortunate ’cause we have so much family around us all the time. So, there’s a lot of wisdom they can pick up, not just from us, but from their grandparents. My sister-in-law’s around a lot. They have a lot of good guides.”
Chris and family plan to slow down for the holidays and the arrival of those babies. He only has a handful of dates announced for 2018 so far, including a June 23 date at AT&T Stadium in Dallas opening for The Eagles.
