“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” star Chris Pratt took over as guest host for an episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Dec. 4. But he wasn’t the only Chris in the building.
The actor and father of one welcomed special guest and soon-to-be father of four Chris Stapleton to the set on a night when Jimmy was out for his infant son’s heart surgery. And the two friends made quite a night out of their time together.
While on the late night program, they first teamed up for a hilarious rendition of Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes’ 1987 hit “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” the theme song from the film “Dirty Dancing.”
The song choice was made with the help of the show’s resident sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez. He brought out a “Wheel of Cheesy Duets” after Pratt said that the two stars “didn’t actually have any time to rehearse this afternoon. So, we’re going to do something called ‘leave things up to chance.’”
When the two Chris’s launched into their performance, it was clear who had the better voice! There was simply no contest. Pratt struggled to emulate Bill’s deep baritone, while Stapleton effortlessly flaunted his signature sound on Jennifer’s parts. And it seems as though Stapleton had enough confidence to insist in doing the iconic lift from “Dirty Dancing.”
Pratt, who acted hesitant to try and imitate the famous movie scene, was forced to play the role of Patrick Swayze as the reigning CMA Male Vocalist of the Year tried to run across the set and jump into his duet partner’s arms. After a couple of failed attempts, the two were able to successfully reenact the dance sequence with the help of some camera effects and a green screen.
Too funny, y’all!
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time that the Chris’s shared the stage together. In fact, back in October, they joined forces on the last chorus of “Tennessee Whiskey.” At the time, Stapleton was performing a show at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Later on in the talk show, Pratt, who is a self-proclaimed fan of country music, took a moment to interview Chris Stapleton, and chatted about their earlier duet in Nashville.
“It was a lot of fun, and then we proceeded to have, from what I’m told, the greatest time of our lives,” Pratt said of the night the two shared the stage, then hit the town together. “I heard from my friend Jared, who was hanging out with us, that we were going shot for shot of whiskey deep in the night. We closed down one bar, and then went to a Santa bar,” he added, likely referencing Nashville’s famed dive, Santa’s Pub.
“We went to two places that I’ve never been to in my life,” Stapleton added. “You wanted to go into the most tourist area. So we sat in the corner of this bar with ropes like we were on display like zoo animals, so I proceeded to drink doubles and chase them with shots.”
