“The Voice” hopeful Adam Cunningham has already found himself in the bottom two twice this season, but those setbacks haven’t discouraged him from fighting his way to the top.
And, his recent Top 8 live show performance is even more proof that he’s not ready to go home.
During the semifinal round on Dec. 11, the resilient country singer, who is representing coach Adam Levine’s team, pleased viewers and coaches with an emotional cover of Lonestar’s 2001 hit, “I’m Already There.”
Adam, who paired a cowboy hat with a maroon blazer and blue jeans, moved onlookers with his soulful, southern rock voice. He also showed his softer side on lyrics like: “A little voice came on the phone / Said, ‘Daddy when you coming home?’ / He said the first thing that came to his mind / I’m already there
Take a look around / I’m the sunshine in your hair / I’m the shadow on the ground / I’m the whisper in the wind / I’m your imaginary friend /And I know I’m in your prayers / Oh, I’m already there.”
After his performance, Blake Shelton praised Adam, saying, “Seriously man, I can tell singing it that that’s the kind of lyric that means something to you. And, it means something to so many people out there. You sang the hell out of it.”
“You have been such an amazing surprise,” his coach, Adam, added. “You just continue to have your back against the wall. And every single week not only do you make it through, but you continue to compel people to the point where, look at you now man. I mean, you were standing in the bottom two, and here you are, in my opinion, one of the top contenders in the competition.”
And, while Adam’s rendition of the Lonestar hit helped show his strength on a ballad, he wasn’t done sharing his talent. Later on in the show, he teamed up onstage with Blake’s country singer contestant, Red Marlow, for a duet performance of The Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See.” You can check out that performance here.
Adam will find out whether or not he makes it into the final four when the voice returns Tuesday, Dec. 12 on NBC. And, if his luck in recent weeks is any indication, he’ll breeze on through!
