When you are a 13 year old girl, you should be worrying about zits, homework and what you are going to wear to school tomorrow to maybe grab the attention of that boy you have a crush on in your science class.

You should not be worrying about your dad dying.

Yet, that is the real life storyline of “America’s Got Talent” hopeful Evie Clair, whose father is fighting stage IV colon cancer as his daughter is fighting for a spot in the finals of the talent competition show.

But, it’s both of these fights that seem to be propelling Evie to new heights, especially when she takes her pain and puts it into a song. On the August 22 live episode, Evie delivered a heartbreaking version of the song “Wings” by Birdy. And whether it was the candles lit behind her, or the piano she played or the way her emotion seems to crack through every note she sings, it was quite a powerful moment.

Unfortunately, her father was not able to join the rest of the audience and each one of the four judges in a standing ovation she received at the end of the performance, as he now was too weak to attend.
