A bummed Blake Shelton helplessly loses out on a country singer on “The Voice” YouTube/The Voice

The fourteenth season of NBC’s “The Voice” kicked off on Feb 26 with the game-changing block button. If you’re not yet familiar with the block, it’s a new feature that allows each coach one opportunity to keep an artist from joining one of their rivals’ teams during the blind auditions.

Unfortunately for veteran coach Blake Shelton, he got blocked at the worst possible time!

The moment happened during the season premiere episode’s final blind audition of the evening. Country singer and Texas native Justin Kilgore walked out onstage and performed a rousing rendition of Chris Young’s 2011 hit, “Tomorrow.” For his performance, Justin, who is a self-proclaimed Reba McEntire fan, impressed coaches with his smooth and deep vocals and passionate delivery, so much so that he was the first performer of the season to receive four chair turns!

But Blake’s chair turn didn’t count.

You see, delightfully sneaky fellow coach Alicia Keys used her only block to keep the crooner from adding Justin to his team. And, of course, the rest of the judging panel was pretty relieved that Blake couldn’t do anything about it, especially since the Oklahoma-born star reigns as the coach with the most wins on the show.

Heck, even coach Adam Levine rubbed the block into Blake’s face. He was so thrilled that he got out of his chair and began making “snow” angels in front of Blake.

After Blake mouthed the words, “I got screwed,” newbie Kelly Clarkson and season 12 winner Alicia battled it out in hopes of scoring Justin for their respective teams.

“I used my only block on you because I knew your voice was that special,” Alicia told Justin. “You move my spirit. I definitely have a vision for you. So congratulations on a beautiful performance.”

As for Kelly, she used her connection to Reba to try and win over Justin.

“Reba is my mother-in-law,” she told him. “I’ve done a duet with her. We had a hit! Her grandchildren are my children. I’m just saying, I’ll call her.”

“I will call Reba McEntire too,” Alicia threatened. “I’ll call Bonnie Rait. To me, it was definitely about how we can bring the most out of you. That beautiful voice that you just used with all that power that you have inside of you, all that soul that you feel with, I would love to also help bring the best out of you.”

Even though Alicia put up a good fight, it was clear who Justin was going to choose. He went with Kelly!

“I can’t wait to whoop your ass with a country singer,” Kelly said to Blake after her victory!
