By now, you’ve hopefully had a chance to watch Cole Swindell’s highly-emotional new video, “You Should Be Here.”
As a result of this video, many of you have shared your stories about the loved ones you’ve lost, and the tears have been flowing in our office. Now, Rare Country is proud to debut this new version of the video featuring Swindell sharing his own story.
The song is a tribute to Swindell’s father, who passed away just a few weeks after the singer signed his record deal. The Georgia native returned to his hometown to shoot the clip.
Those are Swindell’s brothers and their families you see coming out to greet him toward the beginning of the clip. That Chevy truck he drives into town actually belonged to his father, and the hometown shots are mixed in with highlights from Swindell’s stellar career.
“Those flashbacks are big parts of the video and moments [my dad has] missed,” Swindell says. “Although, I know he’s seen ’em from the best seat in the house.”
The video ends with Swindell visiting his father’s grave for the first time since his dad’s funeral in 2013. His brothers are there to offer support.
“You see my last name in that stone,” Swindell says. “Very emotional time for me, but I realize that I’m definitely not the only one. There’s so many people out there that have lost somebody or just missing somebody. It’s unfortunate for me I’m talking about my dad. It is a personal song for me.”
