Wynonna Judd is an expert at reinventing herself.
Once making up one-half of red-headed mother/daughter duo, The Judds, she topped the charts in the ‘80s with a seemingly pure country sound. Then, as a solo artist, she spit out three No. 1 hits.
Now, she’s back again. This time, playing it cool.
On the Feb. 20 episode of “CBS This Morning” Saturday Sessions, Wynonna sang “Cool Ya’” – a breezy up-tempo number from her newly released self-titled LP “Wynonna & The Big Noise.”
Clad in aviator sunglasses, Wynonna & The Big Noise seem to throw out all of the rules of her previous career. Yet, still keeping it a tight-knit family affair, the Big Noise includes drummer and also Wynonna’s husband, Cactus Moser (who also produced the album.)
The new album, which Wynonna refers to as her “battle cry,” is her first full-length studio album since 2003’s “What the World Needs Now is Love.”
Performing two other cuts off of the album, the power-house singer also sang a slowed-down “You Are So Beautiful,” along with the gritty and edgy “You Make My Heart Beat Too Fast,” during the show. All of these unique sounds rolled into one seem to be a part of Wynonna’s DNA, because she looks as carefree as ever.
