We all know nobody succeeds in life without a lot of help from their loved ones, and Keith Urban is no different. During the opening of his new Country Music Hall of Fame exhibit, the country superstar paid tribute to his father, Robert Urban, who played a major role in helping his son establish his country career.
Urban’s father is now in hospice care and is only expected to live another few weeks. As you can see in this clip, Urban was still keeping that devastating news under wraps when he spoke at the event, but his father was still on his mind in a big way.
The exhibit features some stellar polyester stage clothes Urban wore while performing as a kid in Australia back in the 1970s. It turns out his dad, Robert, actually made a lot of those clothes himself.
Urban said, “My dad particularly always thought it was important that I dressed like a performer.”
Those fancy, home-made duds got Urban far in local talent shows, too.
He adds, “All of these talent quests I went in in Australia, these country music talent quests, they often had categories — best-dressed male, best-dressed female, and I often won best-dressed male. Sometimes it was the only thing I won.”
As we continue praying for the Urban family, check out this moving example of Robert Urban’s big love for his son, Keith.
