Cam just gave some middle school students in Alabama the shock of a lifetime when she showed up unannounced for a mini-concert.

The kids at Pizitz Middle School had been in testing all week, so Cam was the big surprise to congratulate them on a job well done. The school’s girls chorus had learned Cam’s songs “Burning House” and “Mayday,” so the singer actually joined them for their performance.

Cam was so impressed with their arrangement of “Mayday,” she posted the performance clip on Instagram with the caption, “Pizitz Middle School lookin’ goooood.”

Singing with the choral students was a sort of homecoming for Cam, too.

She tells Birmingham’s ABC 33/40, “I grew up in choirs. I love doing things in harmony. Early on, I used to write things for choirs. I did a cappella groups. What I write now, my music has a lot of harmony.”

Thinking back on her own experiences in school choir, Cam adds, “It’s just so nice that they are excited, and they’re excited about music, which is really cool. It makes me really proud to see a really great music program like this that’s doing actual good music and helping these kids train their ear. So, hopefully you guys will have a couple of your own famous people come out of the school here.”
