Watch as Tim McGraw's "Humble and Kind" movement touches the life of this dear man Facebook/Tim McGraw

We often hear stories of people offering a hand or a hand up to a friend, neighbor or even a stranger on the corner in need. And, sometimes that “need” is just a much-needed show of support. It isn’t all that often that those people are teenagers, though.

Ben Ellis, a teacher at Nashville’s Christ Presbyterian Church, is undergoing treatments for esophageal cancer. The effects of the treatments are apparent in a video that Tim McGraw shared on his socials. Ben has lost his hair, requires a cannula for supplemental oxygen and is using a medical walker for assistance in mobility.

What is also apparent in that video is that there is still goodness in the world.

The video shows Ben seated at his window and outside you hear an acoustic guitar and voices singing the praise song “Holy Spirit You Are Welcome Here.” Softly and gently, Ben’s voice joins the the chorus outside his window until the camera turns and you see a group of mostly teenagers, some softly crying, arms raised, eyes closed in praise.

In the video’s caption, Tim explains, “A friend sent this to me today. Ben Ellis is a Nashville area high school teacher battling cancer. The entire student body (400+ students plus HS faculty) drove to his house to worship with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family…So precious and kind.”

According to his Caring Bridge page, the cancer has become more aggressive and treatments are being stopped. Ben’s time is limited and hospice has been called in to keep the teacher comfortable. Our thoughts and prayers join Tim’s and Ben’s students and co-workers for Ben and his family during this difficult time.
