When you’re young, you have plenty of time to find your one true passion.
But for 12-year-old Maddox Ross, it appears as though he has already found his.
The youngster, who actually snagged his way into the Top 20 remaining contestants on Season 6 of “America’s Got Talent” YouTube Challenge, loves singing country music.
And with the promising talent that he seems to possess, who could blame him?
In the video above, Maddox appears onstage adorably armed with an acoustic guitar that, in comparison to his pint-sized body, looks ginormous. With no sign of stage fright, the musical protégé channels Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High On That Mountain.” Pouring his heart and soul into the legend’s tune, we can’t help but wonder if this little guy will be singing to us through the radio-airwaves one day.
“Go Rest High On That Mountain” is one of Vince’s most personal songs, so hearing an adolescent slay the 1995 hit is magical. Vince started penning the song as a tribute to the life and death of fellow country star Keith Whitley, but he didn’t finish writing it until his brother, Bob Gill, passed away.
Maddox is no stranger to covering country songs. In fact, he has a boatload of country covers on his YouTube channel. There, you can find songs like Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s,” Garth Brook’s “Two of a Kind” and Alan Jackson’s “Don’t Rock the Jukebox.”
