If you watched “The 60th Annual Grammy Awards,” you saw many great moments involving some of our favorite country artists, including a powerful moment from Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne and Eric Church honoring the victims of the tragic Las Vegas shooting that took place last year.
But Maren had another big moment in the show: the premiere of a new single and video that could signal the next evolution in the Grammy-winner’s career.
Maren recently collaborated with electronic dance music sensation Zedd for a power pop anthem unlike anything we’ve ever heard from the singer before, and the song’s high-profile debut as a Target ad during the Grammys was nothing short of dazzling. Seriously, if you haven’t seen it yet hold on to your hats because you’re about to be blown away.
The video for “The Middle” starts with Maren in a long, sequined duster riding an elevator. Before you know it, she’s singing in the middle of a soundstage with flashing lights, dancers performing incredible choreography and Zedd backing her up on a keyboard, and you find yourself catching your breath it’s all so exciting!
And her voice just cuts through the air, and the track and simply soars.
It’s hard not to ask the obvious question here—will she transition to pop?
Many a country star has crossed-over to the pop audience and still maintained their country roots: Faith Hill, Shania Twain even Kelsea Ballerini.
It can be done, and it’s hard to argue that Maren shouldn’t run with the success of this track.
It has already garnered more than five million views on YouTube. Five MILLION in under a week. That’s insane! And for that, Maren is thrilled.
“4.6 MILLION views on ‘The Middle’ music video! Thank you guys for the love and excitement on it,” she tweeted on Jan. 31, a day before it cracked the five million mark.
And fans are thrilled for her. There’s a lot of love in the comments section of the tweet, including, “SUUUUCH A JAM, I’m loving it” and “Guys, I just want to say that I can’t get this song out of my head! It’s so good. I guess that’s just me, played one million times.”
And we’re sure the other 3.6 million views were for the same reason. You can’t get this jam out of your head!
We’re happy for Maren and eager to see what comes next for this budding superstar. Check out the full video below, but be warned: once you start singing it, you won’t be able to stop!
Maren stuck around NYC after the Grammys to participate in the taping of the all-star Grammy salute to Elton John, which is set to air this spring. Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, John Legend, Sam Smith, Kesha and Miley Cyrus are also a part of the special that we cannot wait to see!
