Boy, how time flies. It’s already been six months since country duo Thompson Square welcomed baby boy Rigney Cooper Thompson into the world.
So, we’ve been wondering what sort of changes the 17-year married couple has had to make thus far in order to accommodate their little blessing and newest member of the family.
In an exclusive interview with Rare Country, Shawna and Keifer Thompson talked about their latest song, “You Make It Look So Good,” as well as the joys and challenges that have come along with being proud parents.
“We get these emails from this parenting company,” said Keifer, “and it’s literally almost verbatim what’s going on. It tells you what to expect this month and the next. He’s grabbing stuff now and playing with your face and laughing out loud. Everyday he is doing something different.”
For Shawna, the big moment of the day comes when she first witnesses Rigney’s smile. She said, “It’s just amazing to see his eyes light up at the most simple things. Every little grin and laugh just makes my heart smile. Keifer and I actually fight each other off the stairs up to his room some mornings.”
Us fans actually got a chance to see that precious smile earlier this year when Rigney made his debut in Thompson Square’s home movie for “You Make It Look So Good” — the first single off of their upcoming album. The clip features an adorable montage of moments with their precious baby that just about any loving parent can relate to.
“It’s funny what music does to photos,” said Keifer, “It brings them to life. Right now, [Rigney] is the center of our universe. So, any song we sing with that song behind it, it’s going to shape it differently.”
And, they proved that by shaping the song twice. Following their precious homemade music video for “You Make It Look So Good,” Thompson Square released their lyric video for the song, which you can watch below. The video highlights the married couple’s love life and a chemistry that undeniably looks so good.
“[The song] just kind of reminded me of when I was young. I never thought that I wanted a family or to get married or anything,” explained Keifer. “It’s interesting when you meet someone that changes you and makes you want to change yourself.”
While Shawna may have initially changed Keifer, Rigney is the one whose changing both of them. The child has brought many rules into the Thompsons’ household. While the majority of the changes are good, there are a few struggles too. The lovebirds agree that travel has been their biggest challenge so far.
“You have to have so much stuff [to bring.] The playpen, the car seat, the stroller, the diaper bag, not to mention his suitcase. It’s just a lot to deal with, especially flying as much as we are this year,” said Shawna. “Coop actually had a blow out on a recent flight and literally ‘poo’d’ in my lap. Not a fun time. He did it right before we took off on a 3-hour flight. Needless to say it made for an extra long flight.”
Currently, Thompson Square is working on what will be their third album. Although there is no scheduled release date for that album, it is expected to drop at some point later this year. While you wait on new music by the duo, “You Make It Look So Good” is currently available at all digital retailers and can be purchased on iTunes here.
