Country music has always been know for big hair and flashy ensembles. But the 1980’s did for country fashion what the 90’s did for grunge rock, sending the entire genre into an over the top era that included rhinestones and massive bouffants. Whether it was the classic mullet, frizzy perm, or hair that exploded to the heaven’s, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most outrageous 1980’s hairstyles in country music.

Take a look below!

Reba McEntire

Rocking the half-up, half-down perm, she should have left the fire on the stage and not on the top of her head.

Billy Ray Cyrus

We’d rather listen to “Achey Breaky Heart” on repeat for the rest of our lives than ever see this mullet in action again.

The Judds

A 1980’s Country Music staple, these women could sing flawless harmonies that inspired a generation of female musicians. But their feathered bangs and amped up, hair sprayed layers definitely didn’t hit the high notes.

Even the men took part in the sky-high bangs and feathered layers. Needless to say, it’s just as unattractive on men as it is on women.

Dolly Parton

Dolly has always been known for her big hair and over the top style. Needless to say, the 1980’s and her were made for each other.

Joe Diffie

Yet another man that spent the 80’s with all business in the front and a party in the back. While not as outrageous as Billy Ray, it definitely turned some heads.

Barbara Mandell
Barbara is undeniably a timeless beauty. Unfortunately, her half-mullet look from 1985 was not one of her best moments.

All the men of Restless Heart

It’s as if they collectively got together and decided to take on every hairstyle that was popular in the 1980’s. And, as you can see, they nailed it.
