Most people wouldn’t expect to face a deadly storm at a concert billed as “an intimate country music holiday with your favorite country music artists.”
Especially when that concert is in tropical Fiji.
But that’s exactly what has happened to Darryl Worley.
The singer, along with his wife and a handful of country music artists and fans, are in the midst of battling Tropical Cyclone Winston. Unleashing itself at 7 a.m. ET, the intensity of the cyclone is being compared to a category 5 hurricane, which would make it the largest storm to ever hit the southern hemisphere.
Darryl, on call to play the islands “Tunes in the Tropics” event from Feb. 20-27, posted updates to Facebook with his first photo uploaded on Feb. 19. But after what seemed like a sunny day on the beach, things quickly turned dire as he began to share some video messages. “We’re getting ready to put our little plan into motion and ride this thing out,” Darryl said. “It’s pretty crazy out here.”
Darryl’s camp shared with fans on Feb. 20 that they had not heard anything from the singer since the night before. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family at this time.
