The Band Perry up for Grammy for their tribute to ailing music icon Glen Campbell

When the 57th Annual Grammy Awards begin on the night of February 8, many thoughts will turn to the absence of music icon Glen Campbell, who continues to fight a hard battle against Alzheimer’s disease.

Yet, one country music trio will make sure that Campbell is not far from anyone’s mind.

The Band Perry is up for “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” for their special cover of Campbell’s hit “Gentle on My Mind,” which they first performed at last year’s CMA Awards. The cover also appears on the recently released soundtrack for the documentary film “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me.”

Campbell will also be recognized during the Grammy’s for his song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” which is up for “Best Country Song” and “Best Song Written for Visual Media.”

“We were ecstatic that the Recording Academy honored Glen with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 while he was still able to comprehend the love and appreciation of his peers,” explained Campbell’s wife Kim Campbell in a recent press release.

“And now for them to honor him again with a nomination for a song he recorded while descending into the later stages of Alzheimer’s, there just aren’t enough words to express how blessed we feel.”
