Scotty McCreery has only been engaged to the love of his life for a few months, but make no mistake about it – his fiancée, Gabi Dugal, has been his musical muse for him for a long, long time. From the moment these two met back in grade school, through today as they prepare to become husband and wife, there has been a love between them that might be deeper than what just words can convey.
Of course, Scotty did try to express that love in words shortly after his engagement. “I knew she was the one pretty early on in our dating life, but she always said she wanted a year of working [before getting engaged,]” Scotty told Rare Country in an interview. “She’s a nurse at Duke [University Hospital]. It just kind of felt right in our personal lives, so I think we’re ready to take that next step.”
His love for Gabi recently inspired a song, and it’s perfect.
In the late night hours of Jan. 11 Scotty released that song, “Wherever You Are,” a sweet ditty about being far from the one you love the most. The track, which will be featured on the 24-year-old’s upcoming new album, “Seasons Change,” immediately made an impact on fans, who headed to social media to express their adoration for it. “Don’t mind me,” one fan tweeted out. “Just casually crying because new Scotty McCreery music.”
“Songs like this [are] why the repeat button was invented,” another fan gushed.
Later, on Jan. 12, Scotty also released a short video on Instagram introducing the song to fans using an airport as its appropriate setting.
“This is a song I wrote for Gabi,” he told the camera about the song, which Scotty co-wrote alongside Frank Rogers and Dan Isbell. “It’s talking about how Gabi’s traveling but really its me who’s the one that has been traveling a lot. I’m on the road 150 to 200 days a year, and sometimes wherever I am at, and wherever you are, I just want to go and spend time with her. I wrote this song definitely with her in mind.”
Can’t wait till the March 16 album release date to hear the song? It’s available right now on iTunes!
Want your chance to see the song live? You might want to check out Scotty, who has a number of dates booked in the next month in states including as Minnesota, Ohio and Indiana.
And if that wasn’t enough good news in Scotty’s world, there also comes word that his upcoming album’s first single, “Five More Minutes,” is closing in quickly on the Top 10, with both “Five More Minutes” and “Wherever You Are” finding their way onto the iTunes charts at the very same time.
Go Scotty go!
