Sam Hunt proves he’s a little Kanye and a whole lot of Conway in this new performance

When Sam Hunt got his first national TV appearance two years ago, it was on “Late Night with Seth Myers.” So, this past Wednesday, June 6, was a homecoming of sorts.

Hunt kicked off what’s sure to be a huge 2016 with a live performance on the “Late Night” stage, rolling out his new single “Break Up in a Small Town.” Unfortunately, Hunt didn’t get to spend any time at the interview desk as Christian Slater and comedy actress Retta soaked up all of that.

Half Kanye and half Conway, Hunt prowled the stage as he rapped the verses and crooned the choruses of his latest hit. The story in the song about a break up may be as country as they come, but the style is easily the most progressive of anything his Nashville colleagues have ever done.

Hunt sure knows how to ease into a year. Next on his agenda is a stop in Mexico with Luke Bryan and buds for the annual “Crash My Playa” fan trip. After that, it’s on to the Grammy Awards where Sam is nominated for Best Country Album for “Montevallo” and the all-genre Best New Artist. In March, Hunt is headed across the pond for shows in Glasgow, London and Dublin.
