Rory Feek shares a bittersweet video of what Christmas was like without Joey Facebook/Joey+Rory

We lost so many greats in 2016, but for country music fans, losing Joey Feek probably hit the hardest. Maybe it was because she was so young and so full of life before cancer took everything away. Or maybe it was because her faith got stronger as her body became weaker.

Or maybe, it was because we knew her death would mean that her husband Rory and daughter Indiana would be left to live life without her.

In the past year, the two have faced tough days and heartbreaking holidays without Joey. But instinctively, we knew that Christmas would be the toughest of all.

In a heartbreaking picture posted on December 26, Rory could be seen sitting at Joey’s gravesite, just steps from their Tennessee home.

…a farmhouse Christmas.

Just a few days before, Rory also shared a video compilation of what life looked look during this year’s holidays. “On Wednesday morning, we took a family trip home to Indiana to celebrate Christmas a few days early with Joey’s family,” Rory wrote in a blog post. “We had such a wonderful time. I started to write about the trip, but in the end, nothing I could say captured it as well as a few lines and some video clips I took with my iPhone.”

And with every smile shown in that video, we can see the healing begin – even though the pain is still so fresh.
