We have to admit, it’s not anything we expected from Reba McEntire. Yet there she is, making her debut as the first female Colonel Sanders for KFC’s new ad campaign.
It’s odd on paper, but in reality it’s funnier and more brilliant than we could have ever imagined.
And you know—call us crazy—but doesn’t Reba just seem perfect for something like this?
Apparently, she agrees.
While on the red carpet at “The 60th Annual Grammy Awards,” the queen of country stopped by to talk to “Access” reporter Scott Evans and guest correspondent Lilliana Vazquez about saying “yes” to what is inarguably the quirkiest thing she’s ever done in her entire career.
But how did it happen? Reba told them that the phone call came from her manager, and she detailed to “Access” just how that hilarious conversation went down.
“So my manager, Clarence Spalding, came to me and said, ‘Alright, I’ve got some really nice things to tell you about and some uninteresting things. What do you want to hear first?’”
“I said, ‘Oh, the very interesting things!’”
“He said, ‘Alright, they want you to be the first [female] Colonel for KFC.’”
“I said, ‘No kidding?’”
“He said, ‘Well is that a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’?”
“I said, ‘Heck yes, absolutely I want to do that!’ Who wouldn’t want to be the first female Kentucky Fried Chicken Colonel?”
Oh you know that’s exactly how she said it, too.
And apparently, the original Colonel was very happy to welcome Reba to the fold. She said he even sent her a letter!
“He said, ‘Welcome to the family.’ He was very thrilled,” she reveals of the long-dead advertising icon.
Now, spoiler alert ahead if you have seen the commercials yet. The costume is amazing and exactly what you’d expect from the iconic Colonel Sanders, with the addition of some fringe and sparkles. Reba loves it, but there are parts that took some getting used to.
“My goatee tickles a little bit—my goatee and my mustache,” she told “Access,” then added, “I am a pretty good-looking gray-haired man!
“I still looked like I was 12 years old when I put it on!” she joked.
Reba is the queen, y’all, and so funny we can’t stand it. Watch the commercial below for all the laughs.
And there are a few other spots KFC posted that are just as hysterical! Look at this one …
It’s genius … total genius.
Reba had a big time at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (Jan. 28), taking home the award for Best Roots Gospel Album and walking the carpet with her new man, Skeeter Lasuzzo.
We love seeing Reba happy. Congratulations, Reebs! We love you.
