If you asked any country star who they credited for their career to, we’re betting almost all of them would put their fans first on that list. We hear them thank their fans from the stage at award shows, they host parties for them during CMA Fest and they dole out hugs and handshakes backstage at every show. Sam Hunt is showing his loyal followers his gratitude in a bit different way, while also shining a lot on another star in his family.
He is taking time off to follow his wife, Hannah, while she pursues her dream.
The hit singer-songwriter shared a photo on his Instagram page showing his breathtaking bride administering medical care to a young child in the Marshall Islands, and to say it is compelling seems like an understatement. But it is only after reading the message that accompanies the photo that we realize how it relates to Sam, his fans and the incredible gift they have given him.
The sweet Georgia country boy begins, “While I was in Nashville trying to get things going with music, Hannah was providing medical care to Hondurans during the 2009 coup. She was working in Syrian refugee camps and delivering Kurd babies in northern Iraq during the 2014 elections. She spent time in Israel where she helped with a feeding program and worked with Holocaust survivors.”
He then goes on to explain, “This photo was taken by @igotnostrings in the Marshall Islands, where she was a part of a team providing basic health care to people on the island of Lib. Her heart for humanity is one of the things I admire most about her, but she’s put her ambitions on hold to be with me for the past year and a half. This winter, thanks to the people who’ve supported me and my music, I’m able to go with her and be a part of her dreams as they’ve become mine. If you’ve ever bought a record or come to a show, God bless you for giving us this opportunity🙏”
While we imagine that thousands of Sam Hunt fans’ hearts may have just cracked a little at the thought of their favorite star taking a break from the biz, we’re sure hoping that they’re feeling a little proud of themselves too, because, as Sam said, it’s their generosity and loyal support of his career that allowed him to take part in this incredible humanitarian effort.
Props to these awesome, big-hearted country music fans, to Sam and Hannah and to artist wives like Lauren Akins and Hayley Hubbard who have also spent time away from their families to spread love and medical care around the world.
