With the growing popularity of country music and the influx of new residents in Nashville, the impression is that Music City houses a large and competitive industry, and in some ways it does. But in most ways, it’s just a big, ol’ happy family. CMA Duo of the Year nominees Brothers Osborne proved that when they took a Twitter troll to task in defense of fellow nominees Maddie & Tae.

Following the September 4 announcements of this year’s CMA Award nominees, a country fan made a rude remark questioning one of the Duo of the Year nominations, and it rubbed brothers John and TJ Osborne the wrong way.

The brothers, never ones to mince words, shot back, “Because they are fucking awesome, that’s why.”

Unfazed by the smackdown, the obvious fan of Bros. Os reacted with joy that that John and TJ had seen her comment.

Alrighty, then.

More importantly, the “Girl In a Country Song” duo (who aren’t sisters) saw the conversation go down and didn’t hesitate to express their gratitude for their fellow duo’s chivalry. Maddie & Tae tweeted, “When your favorite duo shuts down haters for you 😭🙌 Absolutely adore y’all.”

Of course, all of the Duo of the Year nominees, including Dan + Shay, LOCASH and Florida Georgia Line, would love to take home that sweet CMA trophy, and we wish them all luck. But super props to those tall brothers who had their sisters’ backs.
