Rumors have long been swirling that Luke Bryan just might have something major up his sleeve. But heck, this is sounding more and more like a fact with each passing day.
A blockbuster exclusive released by “Variety” on September 24 says that “American Idol” producers are set to name Luke as the rebooted franchise’s second judge, joining the already announced Katy Perry on the singing competition show. While the article states that neither ABC nor Luke’s publicity team have commented on the potential development, this looks like a pretty reliable report at the moment.
Fans will recall that many names have been mentioned as possible judges in recent months, including music stars Lionel Richie, Charlie Puth and fellow country superstar (and former “Idol” judge) Keith Urban. “Variety” says all three are now “unlikely … to round out the judge’s table.” Returning “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest told reporters backstage at this past weekend’s iHeartRadio Music Festival that an announcement about the confirmed judges would be released “imminently.”
Of course, if the “Variety” report is true, it’s certain to add yet more pressures on Luke’s already crazy schedule. In fact, the four-time Entertainer of the Year is set to embark on his ninth annual “Farm Tour” starting September 28 alongside openers Jon Pardi, Adam Craig, the Peach Pickers and Jon Langston, plus DJ Rock. The revamped “Idol” is set to premiere in early March on ABC.
