Missing country singer’s family clinging to hope he’s still alive @backroadcraig/Twitter

Country singer Craig Strickland is still missing after his boat capsized during a hunting trip Monday near Tulsa, Okla. The singer’s family is holding out hope that he will be found alive.

Strickland’s friend, Chase Morland, was found dead in the freezing temperatures, but Strickland’s dog, Sam, was found safe and sound standing guard at Chase’s body.

Strickland’s friend and Backroad Anthem bandmate Toby Freeman tells People, “Dog being man’s best friend is a saying that’s so common, but it’s actually so true in this case. Sam’s an older [black] lab and for him to make it in such harsh conditions — it’s just so amazing and we’re clinging to that.”

Freeman goes on to say the Strickland family is “very faith-based,” so they’re clinging to God as they go through this trying time.

Freeman adds, “It’s such a gut-wrenching accident and it’s so tragic. His wife Helen is struggling so much, she’s just hoping and praying that they find Craig.”

One other thing Strickland has going for him is his strong will.

“Anything that Craig put his mind to he could accomplish,” Freeman adds. “He’s so passionate about his wife, his family, the band — he had a fire in him for the things that he loved.”
