Michael Ray shares update on ailing father with concerned fans  Instagram/@michaelraymusic

The past few weeks haven’t been easy for up-and-coming country singer Michael Ray, but it appears that things are turning a corner for the handsome and talented “Kiss You In the Morning” singer.

Michael’s holiday break started when he was arrested for DUI and possession after a minor collision in a McDonald’s drive-thru in his hometown of Eustis, Florida. Michael issued an open apology to his fans, family, and friends and then turned his focus toward another challenge his family was facing.

Right after Christmas, Michael, quietly asked for “good vibes and prayers” when he shared the news that his father would be undergoing open heart surgery. Fortunately, a day later, he happily announced that his father had come through the operation beautifully. He thanked fans and doctors with a throwback video of his father visiting him in Nashville, where they had a late night sing-along.

But on New Year’s Eve, the father and son were able to celebrate together in real time. The singer-songwriter packed up a few cars with friends and family and headed to the hospital, where they had their own countdown to 2018.

Obviously relieved, Michael wrote, “What do you do when your pops is still in the hospital after having open heart surgery on New Year’s Eve? … You pack a car load of people and surprise him, and bring in 2018 with your main man with a big whisper of ‘happy new year’ when it strikes 12 midnight in the hospital! Thank you all for the positive vibes and prayers that you all have sent during this time! He is doing amazing, and couldn’t do it without y’all. Love you all and thank y’all for an incredible 2017. Can’t wait to see what we will do and build together in 2018!”

After a crazy busy 2017, which included launching the charity Wrigley Cares: Helping Animals in Need to help care for shelter pets, Michael is back in Nashville now and ready to get back to work promoting his amazing new single, “Get to You,” which is the first release from his second major label album. We don’t have many details on that project yet, so they may still be recording or putting finishing touches on the album.

Michael’s concert calendar is also rapidly filling up with dates starting Feb. 1 and extending into August, with plenty of fair and festival shows on the itinerary, so it appears that 2018 is going to be just as busy as 2017 was for the hot, rising star.
