As country music superstar Luke Bryan took the stage at a June 11 tour stop in Virginia, he had much more on his mind than booty shaking.

He was ready to pay tribute to our country.

So he took his hat off and placed it upon his heart and in all of his a cappella glory, he tore into a version of the ?Star Spangled Banner? that had the crowd in awe and singing along. And for a moment, a crowd of thousands was reminded of our priorities as Americans, and why it?s so darn important to stop every once awhile and pay homage to the country we call home.

The timing of the performance was special in itself, as it occurred on the same day ?The Voice? contestant Christina Grimmie was shot and killed at a meet and greet after her show and just a day before the tragic Orlando nightclub shooting.

Luke spoke to Rare Country on June 12 about how he personally handles such tragic events. ?My approach in life is let?s huddle together and say our prayers in the evening and let?s be smart about how we live. I still think that the American spirit is about not letting fear or our urge to live in fear take over.?
