Luke Bryan makes a concert super special for this deserving fan screenshot screenshot

There’s no question, Luke Bryan loves to make his fans happy. From the women who scream for his onstage gyrations, to the fellas who toss him a beer, to the tiny tots he pulls onstage to sing and dance with him, he’s an equal opportunity people pleaser and all of his fans are equally special to him.

But once in a while, Luke has the time and opportunity to do a little something extra for a deserving fan.

Mississippi special education teacher Alisha Thames is pretty darn deserving. The young breast cancer survivor was diagnosed and began treatment without her two small children or her students finding out until the effects of chemotherapy took her hair. Even then, she maintained a brave face and, according to her Richland High School principal, she never missed a day of working with her students. In video featured on “The Today Show,” those students said that she was more like a mom than a teacher to them. And as much as a champion as they are for her, she also says she wouldn’t have made it through her battle against breast cancer without them.

It was under the guise of shooting a documentary on special education teachers that Alisha and her husband were put on a plane with an unrevealed destination. It was only when “Today’s” Hoda Kotb met the couple at the airport that it was revealed that Alisha was actually in Houston to see her favorite country star, Luke, perform. And one better? It was her very first concert ever.

That wasn’t even enough for Hoda or for Luke, who was obviously in on the surprise. Waiting backstage for the show to start, Alisha got the surprise of her life when Luke popped his head in to meet the superstar teacher. The country star greeted Alisha with a warm hug, but when her tears began to flow, there were more hugs and a plea from Luke, ?Don’t cry on me,? who was obviously moved by her story.

The best part? Hoda shared the news that Alisha’s cancer is in remission.

Alisha’s surprise was part of “Today’s” Pink Power Today initiative recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness month.
