We’ve been waiting not-very-patiently for either a confirmation or a denial that Luke Bryan will be a judge for season 16 of ABC’s rebooted “American Idol,” and now we have it!
In true Georgia boy fashion, Luke made the announcement from a hayfield. As we’d hoped, he confirmed that he will be a part of ABC’s revival of the hit singing competition show, which formerly aired on FOX.
In a video on his Twitter page, Luke confirms the rumor and says he’s looking forward to taking the judge’s table with pop icon Katy Perry and his own hero, Lionel Richie, along with fellow Georgian Ryan Seacrest, who will be back as the show’s host.
Just days ago we reported that Luke was being considered for a judge’s post, but earlier in the summer rumors had also circulated that had Carrie Underwood and former “AI” judge Keith Urban’s names in the mix.
Now that we know that Luke is onboard, will that have any effect on his touring or recording schedule? Country fans are supportive, yet they have voiced that very concern about Luke’s involvement. But keep in mind that Keith was able to serve on “Idol” for several seasons and maintain his touring and recording careers as well.
Luke and the rest of the new judges will appear on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Oct. 4, and we’re sure to hear more about his decision to commit to the show and what kind of judge he hopes to be.
Cheers and congratulations Luke! You make us proud.
