When tragedy strikes country stars, they can always count on their fans to offer encouragement and prayer. Little Big Town’s Jimi Westbrook felt that support firsthand earlier this month when he lost his older sister, Joyce, to cancer.
When devastating things like that happen, Westbrook tells Rare Country, “You just see how much they actually care and are invested in your lives. And it’s not just when you’re onstage and singing the song that they love. That’s the great thing about country music fans. They invest in the artist. They love them. They care about them, and they think about them as friends.”
Many of those heartfelt messages came through social media after Westbrook made the heartbreaking announcement that his sister had passed away. The kind words helped the country star keep it together as they said goodbye to his sister at a funeral in Alabama.
“They respond always with love,” Westbrook says of the band’s fans. “And it’s heartwarming on either side., whichever way it is, they’re always very kind and supportive.’
Westbrooks’ wife and band mate Karen Fairchild adds, “The prayers and the condolences are not lost on us. They have really meant a lot to Jimi and his family. So, yeah, we just want to say thank you.”
