For those of you who say country isn’t country anymore, Craig Campbell is making it so that you have nothing to complain about anymore.

Craig took to the stage for his first-ever “The Today Show” appearance to trot out his newest song, “Outskirts of Heaven,” which will appear on his yet-to-be-released album. Built as a traditional country waltz and dripping with pedal steel, the song is so undeniably country it actually reminds you a bit of something George Strait would do.

While none of us seem to really know what heaven is like, Craig seems to think it’s not unlike any other metropolis where millions of people reside. That said, if he gets to pick, he wants to live there the same way he does here, out on the outskirts near the city limits where there’s dirt roads, hay fields and fish in the river.

Before Craig went into the tune, he chatted briefly with Kathie Lee and Hoda. Kathie Lee did her best to play the role of manager, noting how important a good song title is.

Craig also informed the co-hosts that he’ll soon be checking another first off his bucket list. He’ll be heading out on his first USO Tour, with stops in two corners of the country – Florida and Washington.

They say there’s room for all kinds of country in country music, and we sure hope so because this song and this style is what it’s all about.
