Some guys will go above and beyond in the hopes of getting a girl’s attention. But, that doesn’t always mean that they will succeed.
Just ask Kenny Chesney.
The first song that the country music star says he ever wrote was inspired by his (secret) crush. He hoped that his gesture to pen her a tune would get her to date him. But, his attempt failed miserably.
“Looking back on it that was my first taste of rejection with my music,” Kenny tells “Today” show anchor Natalie Morales, alluding to the fact that heartbreak brought him to where he is today. “And it’s what every entertainer and every songwriter that tries to break into the business feels on a daily basis.”
Nowadays, Kenny has no problem charming the ladies. But, the 48-year-old East Tennessee native admits that his priorities are set on pleasing fans instead of getting serious in a relationship.
“I have been a big dreamer and I have been very hyper-focused on my career,” said Kenny. “I’ve been climbing a certain ladder almost my whole adult life. I guess the lesson in that is just to enjoy the journey and enjoy the climb.”
Kenny will climb another step in the ladder at the 2016 CMA Awards. There, he will be honored with the major Pinnacle Award, which has only been handed out to two other stars, Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift. Be sure to catch The 50th Annual CMA Awards when they air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 2 on ABC.
