One thing’s for sure about Kellie Pickler: you can always count on her to help our troops, as well as their families back home, no matter what.
This story is particularly heartbreaking, and moved Kellie, a veteran of many USO tours, and her “Pickler & Ben” co-host Ben Aaron to take action and help this widowed mother-to-be.
Britt Harris was a young wife, married to the love of her life, Christopher, who also happened to be a soldier in the U.S. Army. The two were looking forward to a lifetime of happiness together and the chance to start a family.
That chance did come for the couple. At the end of July 2017, Britt found out she was expecting their first child. Tragically, before she was even able to share the news with her husband, he was killed in Afghanistan as the result of a suicide bomber.
He was just 25 years old.
Over the course of her pregnancy, Britt has done an amazing job of preparing for her baby in the midst of her overwhelming grief.
But Kellie and Ben wanted to do more for the deserving mother, so they decided to step in and give her the nursery of her dreams.
Kellie called on Tish Cyrus (Miley’s mom and Billy Ray’s wife) to design and decorate the nursery, and boy, did she knock it out of the park! Tish and Billy Ray have long been advocates for our men and women in uniform, and Tish said it was an honor for her to be a part of such a worthy project.
Gorgeous pinks and golds and a majestic white crib adorn the room, while a sweet dreamcatcher hangs from the wall along with photos of baby girl Christian’s late father.
It was bittersweet reveal for Britt when she first saw the room, as it brought so much happiness, as well as memories of her departed husband.
“At first I was just really excited. Then I saw the pictures of Chris and it was a little overwhelming, but in a good way,” she says in the video below.
What a sweet and perfect touch to this room, ensuring that her dad can live on in this little girl’s heart as the hero he was and always will be.
And Britt says she just knows her husband would be absolutely thrilled.
“I’m sure Chris is looking down watching all of this happen,” she says. “He wouldn’t want anything less for his daughter.”
This family deserves to feel all the happiness in the world during this joyful time.
“It’s the best nursery I could have imagined,” Britt says.
We are so thankful to Britt’s husband for his bravery, and for laying down his life in service to our country. We wish this sweet mom-to-be all the best for a safe delivery and a healthy baby girl.
