If you haven’t figured it out listening to his hits like “Sweet Thing,” “Kiss a Girl,” “Once in a Lifetime” and “Put You in a Song,” let us just tell you straight up that Keith Urban really loves his wife, Nicole Kidman.
He tells “Hits Daily Double,” “First and foremost, my marriage with Nic informs everything.”
The secret to keeping their decade-plus marriage strong lies in talking things out, which is just a way of life for Nicole.
Keith explains, “Nic is so unbelievably open; she doesn’t keep things in or bottle them up. She’s really a great communicator. Because of her, if I open up, every day, I’m listening and growing and learning. If I’m a better man, it’s because of her.”
Keith didn’t just automatically open up about his emotions with Nicole, though. Things were pretty tough when they first got together.
He adds, “I had such a learning curve in our marriage! When she’d get scared, I’d think she was angry; then I’d get defensive, go tearing out the driveway at 90 miles an hour.”
Keith eventually learned that Nicole just needed to be heard and be close to him when she’s afraid.
“When things are tough or upsetting, it’s about pulling her close,” Keith explains. “That’s what she needs, and I had to learn it.”

“The Fighter” is included on Keith’s latest album, “Ripcord,” out now.
