Kane Brown pays tribute to a departed family member in a special way Instagram/@kanebrown_music

It’s been almost five months since Kane Brown lost one of the most influential people in his life, his great-grandfather that he lovingly called “Papa.”

Rare Country previously reported that the talented young country star with the heart of gold lost his great-grandfather in September. Kane was on the road with Florida Georgia Line when Papa passed. And while the song “Granddaddy’s Chair” from his self-titled debut album honors his grandfather, the song, “Cold Spot,” is about growing up around his great-grandfather and the convenience store, the Cold Spot, that he operated in Rossville, Georgia.

The song’s lyrics describe it vividly. “A cement building, white cinderblocks and faded red letters / The sign read Cold Spot / He worked behind the counter / To them he was an old man / When my world was crumbling, my grandpa gave me his hand.”

Recently, on his socials, Kane shared a photo of his great-granddad surrounded by a group of gentlemen and holding an athletic jacket with the name “Cold Spot” emblazoned on the back. It just seems fitting that Kane should be the relative who inherited that piece of his family’s history. And for the young singer-songwriter, it was important to wear it right onstage.

So, over the weekend in Huntington, West Virginia, Kane donned the garment when he hit the stage and it was as if Papa was right there with him.

Now, Kane has been doing a great job of earning new fans since he began making YouTube videos of country covers a couple of years before he even got a record deal, but we want to think that maybe on this specific night, Papa had a hand in Kane making a few more fans fall in love with him and his unique sound.

At from the looks of a photo Kane shared on Instagram of himself in the jacket, it sure made him happy, too.

And this young man has everything in the world to be happy about. He and longtime pal Lauren Alaina took home Duet of the Year award for “What Ifs” at the 2017 Rare Country Awards in December. He also has his second Top 10 single with “Heaven,” and he’s on one of the hottest tours of the year with Chris Young and LANCO. Kane, Chris, and LANCO will be on the “Losing Sleep Tour” through April, and then Kane heads out on his own for fair and festival season through July.
